i don't mind, but it seemed odd.

I Ato Bolden's commentary on Jeremy Wariner before the race: "Wariner is not ranked in the top 3 yet this year and I fully expect him to make a statement with this race and run a world leading time [paraphrased]". And you're basing this on what exactly, Mr. Bolden? Seriously. What has he done this year to lead you to the conclusion that Wariner would smoke the field and run a world leader? Are you just talking out of your ass because Wariner is a big name and you have a microphone?

Of course, Wariner then proceeds to run 45-something and lose a somewhat slow race. Didn't see that one coming did you Bolden? I did and I'm a nobody who isn't getting paid to announce televised track meets.

let's just be thankful that track is on national tv. I'm a happy camper.

Right before the men's 100 online, they forgot to turn the microphones off and the guy goes to Ato Bolden "I hardly know any of these guys, this is going to be rough."

Boldon was a very fast runner, but his commentary on the TV has been inane...along with other things about the TV broadcasts, he was a big reason I stopped watching, and only see the races on the web now.

A friend of mine who never watches track complained about how bad the announcing was and he was barely paying attention and could tell.

I happened to have worked with most of the people on that crew, and I am embarrassed for them.

It's a damned shame.

Thankful for track on national TV. Thank you NBC.

Food for thought:

-Use split screen technology. When they had Dwight Stones talking about the high jump during the 2-mile they cut out of the race. How about have DS talking but in a corner have a video of the action going on. Or if it is the 2 mile have a corner of the high jump going on.

-Do not focus on the winner after they cross the line. Give them 5 seconds to compose themselves. Focus on the finish line instead so other finishers can be seen.

The broadcast was that bad.

I forgot to add, they showed a graphic after the women's race showing Maggie Vessey in 2nd place.

These guys could insist on being better prepared.

They are professionals, for crying out loud.

You could literally pull an enthusiast for each event from the stands and get better announcing - maybe more tentative, but the information would be better.

They showed rugby on NBC and I had to watch the meet online from a Turkish website. I would much rather have watched poor coverage on TV than that.

They apparently thought the women's 800 was more interesting to show than the men's 800.

Well, we did get the last 20m of the men's 800 with a head on shot as a replay.

Couldn't squeeze a full two minutes more into that 90 minute broadcast.

To take that a step further, the women's 400m was on for a total of 7min 20sec. They couldn't knock that down 1min to at least show the last lap of the men's 800m?

When they showed the top three for the womens 800m it was all f***ed up. They didnt even have it correct. Caster Semenya came in second and wasnt listed in the top 3.

Also: The 1st place and 3rd place times were listed like this... X:XX.XX

but the 2nd place time was listed like... X'XX.XX

Everything was pissing me off.

No need to be happy that the meet was broadcast on network tv. We can watch most meets at FloTrack or RunnerSpace now, often with better commentary. NBC has no one who wants to watch track by the balls any longer.

The best part of the show was Dwight Stones on the high jump. In fact, it usually is Dwight Stones. who is able to articulate more about track and field than anyone else.

Also on Tv during the damn 2 mile they kept showing the long jumpers for about 30 seconds at a time. All you have to do is show the sprint and the jump then say the distance, something that should take under ten seconds. You dont have to show the jumper's pre jump ritual and zoom in on him for 15 seconds post-jump.

Basically my problem is that if they buy rights to show a race, thus preventing others from showing it, they ought to actually show that race! Otherwise they're essentially paying money to keep us from seeing a race.

To those that are complaining about Ato Bolton, I disagree entirely. Bolton is the best thing that they have going for them... at the sprints. He (rightly) rarely talks about any of the other events. What they need is people like him for events other than the sprints.
