Ciaran O'Lionaird 3:41.02

Sheesh, 4.5 second win too, over an actual 1500m-type guy - really impressive for someone aiming at 5K-10K.

Last 800, not 400, was 1:55.

He and McDonnell??????????????? Ciaran was never a hog! He was at Michigan! You must be mixing him up with Colin Costello. Ciaran is flying! He'll go close to 13.30 if not under before the season is over. Talented guy, he can run a 3.37 no problem in the right race

So here's the quote on the front page: "Impressive: Former Irish Junior Champ & Michigan Wolverine Ciaran O'Lionaird Runs 3:41.02 Two Weeks After 28:32 10k"

So my gripe with this is that there is no mention of where he is currently running and thriving - Florida State.

Do the Brojo's have a South bias as well? Let's give credit where credit is due. Braman is doing a great job with his runners. I do wish he'd go toe to toe with Florida for US talent though. He still seems addicted to Foreigners.

This guys is pretty impressive for an irish runner. still at the end of the day this guy doesn't want to get himself caught up in a position where he's racing amercias top runners. u see a guy like this doing anything against any top 10 US 10k or 1500m runner? nah. Still good effort to say he's ireland.

I think you're missing the point of what dickson was saying. I took it as saying too bad Ciaran wasn't around in McDonnell's coaching days because he looks like the prototypical Arkansas-type stud a la Alistair Cragg.

that is spot on as to what was intended. john works magic with irish runners, especially those with a range of 15-10k like this lad seems to have.

Using ventolin's famous calculator:

28'32, 3'41>> 13'32, 7'48

I don't know about the quality of the races though, maybe he could've ran 3'37 and 28'15.

Sorry about the misunderstanding dickson street cafe, i should have read your post more carefully. I agree with you about McDonnell/O Lionaird, i'm pretty sure he was approached by the hogs, he was definitely heavily linked to them back in 2006.

I know he started off you and hungry, but this kid is a perfect example of not being able to coach anyone that is a complete phenom!

The kid is an example of hard work, perseverence, and patience. At one point he never thought he was going to be able to run again and then he is running 28:32 for 10k and 3:41.02 for 1500. Incredible display of running!

Taking Ciaran's story as one of many, the "thought I'd never run again" wears a bit thin with me. How many times do we hear this rubbish? A case of an athlete requiring drama/obstacle in order to refocus perhaps>
