Flotrack is starting the discussion with how to get the sport of track & field more noticeable around the country. Here's the video:

How would you help get it more noticeable or grow the popularity of the sport? Some ideas I have are:
-For high school, maybe have like a mile race during halftime at a football game (kind of like what Portland did during their basketball game). Since most high school races are on a Saturday and a lot of football games are Friday nights, maybe have some local elite runners race in it or something like that.
-An open track meet for people to do during the summer (kind of like what Nick Willis did down in New Zealand with his charity meet). Meet could either raise money for a local high school team or for some type of charity.
-Advertise a big time high school/college race between two or more top rated runners going at it. I remember in high school that 2 of the best runners in the state with a couple of state titles under their belt were racing each other in the 1600m. The school who was hosting the meet advertised all over the school and the community. There was a good amount of people who showed up which the fans weren’t disappointed as the race came down to a final kick with 100m to go.
