OFF..panties too
My nipples get chafed when I wear a shirt and it's too hot. Also, it means I don't have to bring an extra shirt to change into after practice; I just wear the one that I didn't get gross while running.
And for the guy with backne, you probably had it because you wouldn't take off your shirt and all the oils built up.
Why does it matter if girls can't also take off their shirts? Guys aren't allowed (informally) to wear running shorts as part of their everyday wardrobe!
How is this even a question? Who in America could honestly think that a shirtless male body is 'indecent'? (I've got sharp words for those who think the female body needs to be covered up all the time as well, but never mind.)
At my school there was no question: shirts off if you wanted to, though you had to wear a sports bra if you were a girl. There were enough people who kept shirts on (more insecure freshmen, less upperclassmen) that it was possible to wear a shirt and not be stigmatized.
Part of growing up was learning not to worry about how every single person might perceive me. Also the same reason I started wearing running shorts: confidence that I looked damn good.
My town was pretty conservative, but I can't imagine people complaining about shirtlessness, especially in the hot weather we got. Hell, there was even a picture of me and my team all training shirtless, all wearing running shorts, in the paper. (We looked like badasses.) If there were complaints I never heard about them. We were more likely to get whistles of appreciation.
In the cases of pools, allowing people to go shirtless obviously has less to do with "getting over prudishness" than it did about simple practicality: SWIMMING WITH A TOP ON IS SLOW AND UNCOMFORTABLE. More more so than running with a top on, which seems to work just fine in most of the WRs I've seen.
Also, since you seem to have misunderstood (of course), I said "I just can't get over the bad logic you must apply to the rest of your life IF this is how you think." Believe me, I have no concern at all for the quality of your life. Only for that of those affected by your illogical thought processes.

Our school is so strict about no shirts. Our girls team isn't very good so none of them just wear sports bras. We (the boys team) try to go shirtless all the time, but we never can do it on the track, only when going on the streets. BUt we've had people try to steal our shirts before, and apparently people from outside the school call our AD and tell him we're running shirtless? Its bs. But when we meet up over the summer we always go shirtless, and don't get in trouble. Our AD gets soooo pissed if he catches us though...He tries threatening us...
BS on several countts:
1. Your girls team isn't very good THEREFORE none of them just wear sports bras? I don't know what speed has to do with this.
2. People try to steal your disgusting running shirts when you leave them at the track to go off for a run? Doubtful.
3. Unless you're the only high school for miles (maybe) and no other young people ever run where you are (maybe), how would anyone know who to call since you're wearing no shirts that could ID you? Your AD is lying to you,or you're lying to us.

Ummm I dont think that person is.
1. SLow girls might be fat or chubby. Or its at least like seeing a 25 min 5ker roll up with shaved legs. A poser.
2.Its called being an asshole. WHy else would someone want my hoodie with my last name on it? Or my dirty jeans? They just steal it and put it in the garbage and shit.
3.I live in a city of 100k+ people with 2 main high schools. They are 3.5 miles apart. And yeah, sure, kids everywhere just run around...do you live in Kenya? Theyre fatasses who are playing call of duty. Its most likely that 1 area has runners from 1 school. 90% of the people could be shirtless but 1 kid could have a shirt from that school. Our team got yelled at for using obscene language because someone complained, so yeah its not impossible. Its probably true.
We had the weirdest policy at our high school. We had to wear shirts but were allowed to not wear pants if it was hot enough, both boys and girls. Then when I went to college we were allowed to go shirtless but had to wear pants. Tough adjustment.
As a coach,I've always believed you practice what you're going to do when you compete. Most rulebooks do not allow you to compete shirtless....
this rule was just put into effect at my school this year. the girls team was told they couldn't wear sports bras, so one of their moms went all the way to the superintendent to make sure that the boys weren't allowed to either (go shirtless). UUUGGGHHH. now we're all considering buying singlets for track workouts(because all the ath. dept. money goes to the football team amirite!?)
Shirts off all the time when it was hot.
Shirts off not that big a deal, we used to do boxer runs all the time in high school
Freshman year we were barred, until we started wearing 80's style cutoffs that looked like a mix between a bra and a t-shirt. It met the school's rules, but looked embarrassing, so they changed the rule to let us run with shirts off.
I think the shirtless yahoo's look like D bags.
I got to run shirtless today in Northern Colorado. It felt great. Appropriate for the first day of spring, but not the norm for this area :-)
Never ran without a shirt in high school but now I do. Tell the faculty that they can deal with it for the 3 seconds that they see the runners around campus. In no way is it disrespectful and the runners should be allowed to do what they want.
Our high school does not permit running without shirts, and they are strict about it. We often try to run without shirts as soon as it hits 70 degrees, (beginning of xc, most of spring track). Sometimes we get away with it, we run "off campus" aka out of the parking lot and then theres this rail against the road that we put our shirts on. One time we had bad luck though and some of our shirts were stolen/it smelled as if someone had peed on the ones that remained....Anyway our A.D. gets sooo pissed if we get caught without shirts on. Also, theres apparently people who call the school and tell our A.D. that we were running without shirts on...Do people not have lives? But over the summer when we meet up to start training for xc we never wear with shirts and since no one is at school theres no one to get in trouble with.
I make my kids wear a shirt because they have to race with one.
I liked to wear a singlet.
Where I grew up sunburn is an issue. I could put it on my shoulders, the singlet took care of the rest.
Imagine an hour before workout with a bunch of skinny guys lathering themselves up?
No thanks.
Also it is something to wipe the snot off my face after a hard rep.
