As a low 9 minute two miler would Ohio State be a hit or a miss?

Yes. Coach Gary is the developmental chair for the 5k/10k. Hes currently coaching a US Champ (See), Olympic Qualifier (Huling), and recent sub 4 runner (Leslie). And they just got the strongest Big 10 recruiting class this year.
Also, how low is low 9? like 9:0x? or 9:2x? Realize that most of the recruiting he does is in Ohio.
Having the best recruiting class in the conference doesn't get you much, and the recruiting season is far from over. Even if they did, it doesn't mean they will be the best team in the big ten within the next few years.
Depending whom you ask you'll get yes and no answers. If it fits the general academic profile of what you're looking for, you might as well consider it. Talk to the coach and athletes and see what you think.
For what it's worth, what I've seen and heard has mainly been negative, about the coach and team. They do have a star here and there, like See and now Leslie. Their XC team is in and out of the NCAA meet...whether they perform up to their talent level? Not sure.
Anyway, if you're asking letsrun for advice on the biggest decision of your life, it's probably already a lost cause, but good luck.
