Hey columbia and syracuse, there is a perfectly good meet in Boston this weekend where you can run where you can run your distance runners.
Sincerely,
Old Timer
why would columbia go to boston this weekend when it can run on its home track?

There's what COULD be a perfectly good meet in Boston this weekend. Columbia like many of the other meets this week are last chance meets. The IC4A's is a death meet for distance runners if they are going for a last chance. Heats for the DMR? Really? Who the hell would send their team there to run a heat in a DMR. I remember Joel Legare from Uconn ran his Ncaa qualy attempt in the prelim so he could then not have to worry about helping his team in the 4*800 i think it was. Is that the point of the meet?
It makes no sense at all to go to IC4A's for an 800 or mile qualy (or even a pr) since there are rounds..especially the week before Nats. The 3k/5k are not high quality enough to warrent an attempt there either if you're going for an auto, and the DMR is a joke.
It doesn't take a genius to realize you should cut out the rounds of the DMR, yet the IC4A keeps doing it year after year, one of the least intelligent decisions in all of track and field history. Most people make a mistake and learn, they just keep doing it.
Case in point...
Both Van Dalen sisters auto qualify for mile and 5000m...this would not have happened at ECAC's...
nation's best mile in 4:32 (beating Julie Culley) and 15;56 (losing to reilly from NB boston
