Advice Vibrams

Entertaining the idea of getting a pair of vibrams. I most predominantly run very short distances 40s (yards), shuttle type agility sprints, etc (footwork speed/quickness drills). I have no experience distance/road running barefoot, but I've always preferred to run barefoot on grass rather than in traditional running shoes because the shoes always seem to slow me down. The build of the shoe to me seems to not be that much different than the thinly soled shoes that sprinters wear; it actually seems like they would be able to provide more grip due to how they seem to allow your feet and your toes to grip the ground. I'm skeptical that I have yet to find any high level sprinters wearing them though.

Many praise these shoes due to them supposedly allow you to run "naturally", but I don't have any desire to run more "naturally" if it will inhibit my performance. Any advice/knowledge is much appreciated, thanks in advance

I bought a pair when they first started coming out about 4-5 years ago. They are the ones that look like ballet slippers. They are NOT stable and would be horrible for sprinting.

It is not as if they are a direct mold of my foot, the pinky toe doesn't fill out the farthest toe slot and my heel does not completely fill out the back. They are almost loose. I like them though.

I use them mostly during the winter (If I am training at all because I am lazy) to protect my feet from the salt on the roads. In the summer I try and go barefoot. They work well on indoor tracks too because those can be rather abrasive.

I have worn some of the sipes down a bit. Otherwise I anticipate they have several years left.

I have maybe run 500-600 miles in them.

For sprinting, mine are terrible. I really think track spikes are better for sprinting because spikes are rigid, bound to your foot by a strong upper and have the ability to accept actual spikes. Sounds ideal for sprinting, and they are. Whenever I sprinted in my Vibrams they would fall off.

I am by no means a serious runner and never really that good. Maybe like 17:30 5k once.

Also, in terms of minimalism, they may or may not be good shoes (if minimalism works at all) because I never was that serious of a runner. I never even tried out for my college team and my friends who mostly ran in Asics joined the team and did fairly well.
