Awesome thank you!
Thanks.
Threw down a 4 min mile in the middle of a 5k (59,58,61,62). Compare his facial expression to the guys behind him. Bob was hurting back there.
He threw down back to back sub 59 laps (the 59.x split was from the other Kenyan to Komen, Komen ran faster than 59). I haven't even seen Bekele do that in slow races!
Your welcome.
That was a great moment and an amesome run from the kenyan.
Probably only because he never had to :)
Last 3k of Bekele 5000 in 2008 olympics was about 7:35.5
Daniel Komen is so incredible. He obliterated that field. Watching him run ...his form is so smooth. Too bad his time in the lime light was so short
Possibly the most relaxed looking runner ever at 60 second pace. Dude was a machine. I love the way he takes off at 3k. Gotta feel bad for Nyariki... laying down to the field with a 2:32km and Komen just flies past and cranks out a 2:28.
He was hurting all right, but at least he didn't just sit at the back of the pack the whole race. 6th place in the WC final is pretty darned good.
Komen was just on a different level.
Komen was incredible in this race. Geb won the 10,000 earlier in the week and did not double although my money would have been on Komen had Geb run as he missed the Olympics the year before and had never won a track WC title.
About 3-4 days after Komen's win, Komen faced off against a well rested Geb in Zurich and both were on world record pace when Geb blew by Komen with 250 meters to go. The way Komen blew by Nyariki in this video was similar to give you an idea of the move Geb made. Geb got the WR. Komen jogged down the home stretch when it was clear he couldn't win and he was really dejected after the race - partly that Geb sat on him and outkicked him but it looked like Komen no longer believed he could beat Geb. Komen ran some very fast times after that Zurich including a WR in the 5000 but his confidence seemed shaken.
You think Komen would have held off Geb that day?
Geb had to run a prelim and a final for the 10,000 so he may have struggled to cover that mid race move.
But Komen didn't close that race very well (60s) so if Geb stayed in enough range during that mid race move, I think Geb would have nailed him on that last lap.
So someone tell me, in which century will Alan Webb beat Komen's 3000m world record?

Not the biggest Webb fan, eh Malmo?
I don't think the 3k is Webbs distance. His real distance is at the mile, always has been and always will be. Whether he fulfills his potential at the distance before possibly moving up is another thing. A Webb in 3:46, 3:30. and 1:43 shape has as good a shot as any. He was once the american record holder at the deuce in about 8:11 I think, for whatever that's worth...
It makes all the sense in the world to presume that Webb could take down Komen's record.......if you've just ingested half a pound of LSD. Otherwise, no, no way, not ever, yougottabekidding me NO.

???? Why would you say that?

That's not the profile of a 7:20 runner. The profile of a 7:20 runner is 3:29/12:39. There is only one person who has ever walked on a track with those gaudy stats - Daniel Komen. There is a good reason why Komen dominates the 3000/2mile events.
thanks for the vid. God he really made it look extremely easy. Hard to believe that that's a world championship caliber field he's decimating.
3000 to 3400 is ridiculous, about 57...

If El Guerroj had done a few more serious attemps at the 3000, he might have broken 7,20.
