Alright letsrun. Help me out here. I know there are some very knowledgeable people that frequent these forums, so I thought I'd see if anyone on here could help me with a problem I've been having. Starting in early october, I started having some pretty bad pain in my right shin (all the way up and down the outside of my lower leg). I went to a respected sports medicine doctor where I was diagnosed with a tibial stress fracture. I was told 6-8 weeks off should do the trick. I took the rest, missed the end of my senior xc season, and guess what? 8 weeks later, pain was just as bad. So, about three weeks ago, the doctors did an x-ray to see if it was healing. They saw what appeared to be a "bone cyst" where they thought the fracture was, and referred me to an orthopedist. I was then diagnosed with an osteoid osteoma - a form of benign tumor - and told that radiofrequency ablation (a minor, outpatient procedure) could easily fix my problem. I had the procedure done, and sure enough the pain is still there. I've also noticed some similar, but not nearly as severe pain in the same places on my left leg. Not sure what this means...Also, if it helps anyone out, I do have some pain just sitting still (in class, watching tv, etc.), but the pain is much more severe when I run, and the pain is worst after I stop running. So please, letsrun community, help me out. What's my problem? I'm desperate here. For one, I miss running. But that's not my biggest issue. I have several coaches who are interested in me running at some lower level D1 schools and a few D3 schools, but to be frank, none of these schools are my top choices academically. I would be willing to sacrifice a bit academically if it means I get to run, but not if I can't get this injury sorted out. I probably sound over-dramatic/incredibly cliche, but seriously, whether or not I can get this figured out will likely determine where I end up the next four years. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.
