Love me the Gala these days.
Honeycrisp rocks, Pink Lady is a nice alternative, and Fuji can stand in.
Who the fvck even eats a Red Delicious anymore? Bland, mealy waste of apple resources.
iPad
Jazz followed by the Pink Lady.

+1 to that. I hate Red Delicious.
My favorite is the Granny Smith baby, also tastes the best when baked (when the apple is baked, not me).
Jazz - they're just right.
I have only ever eaten red delicious, maybe that's why I don't like apples. Will have to give some of these others a try.

WOW, you're missing out. Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, Braeburn, and Cortland are all red(dish) apples I can think of that are better than most Red Delicious. Even Yellow Delicious are far superior to Reds. Granny Smiths are great if you like the tartness side of apples. And, as mentioned above, they make the BEST pies. Nothing even comes close to Granny Smiths for pies.

I eat a lot of Gala, occasional Fuji depending on prices. I saw Honeycrisp yesterday but they were way expensive. I will have to try them though.
I like Red Delicious but they are so hit and miss it is hardly worth it to buy them. Sometimes they are just as you describe but sometimes they are crisp and sweet and GOOD AS HELL.
You grocery store shoppers don't know what you're talking about!

This is true. I once went running around my wife's parent's house in WA. There were a few stray apple trees growing wild along the road in a valley. I stopped and ate one. Unbelievable.
But, when at the grocery store, pink lady is excellent. Honey crisp is also very good, but always pricey.
Horse apples !
Pinova apples are excellent too. Jazz, Pacific Rose, Honey Crisp, Ambrosia, Fuji
If you are eating apples this time of year (February), chances are that crop was picked at least 4 months ago. Those apples were stored in low oxygen 'cool rooms' to retain their appearance. However, flavor suffers greatly during this long term storage.
Fuji for eating
Granny Smith for cooking/baking
Apple crumble
Simply apply hammer and stir
wtf is up with this thread, everyone knows that macintoshes are the best apples. Admittedly their quality goes down more than other apples when they are out of season, but if you get them in the fall they are unbeatable.
Pink lady are the best.
