Is it beneficial when building up to your Marathon to start the training phases with V02 Max workouts, coupled with some Hills and possible 1500-5K pace work, and have a few 5K and 10K races early in the season. Then as the season progresses get away from those workouts and focus more on 15K-30K specific work?
I'm thinking of it from the standpoint of training on building up to your race distance... start with 5K type training for four weeks, then move to 10K, Half, and Marathon training cycles. Does this type of training logic physiologically sound?
