Is it possible to do both? How much free time will you have to run?
Is it possible to do both? How much free time will you have to run?
Ha.
good luck.
midnight to 4 a.m. are yours...you should still be able to put in 100 MPW with that.
No you can't do both. Wall Street internships, esp. investment banking, are legendary for their demands as far as hours on end of, largely mindless, work. 100 hour weeks are not uncommon and blind devotion is expected. It is impossible to develop any kind of a training rhythm while interning, or employed for that matter, in inv. bkg. This is where you have to decide in your life that your career is starting and your running days are behind you. As a separate matter, take an inv bkg internship in a nanosecond. Don't think twice. It is a potential entree to untold wealth, prestige and, how shall I say this delicately, social standing, parties and women, galore! Need I say more?
I tried it this past summer, it worked okay but it was definitely tough. Luckily the internships are usually only 8 weeks, so you can maintain the motivation for that time.
I would usually get up at 7am, run for an hour, and then get to work by 9, get home at around midnight, and do this through the week. The one day every couple weeks where you couldn't get home until about 2am was tough, I would usually skip the morning run and try to get it in later in the evening if possible, or just take the day off. I would go for two longer runs on Saturday and Sunday morning before going into the office, which helped me try to hit some decent weekly mileage.
The nice thing is that the internships end by early August, so you can relax and train hard for the end of summer and the early season.
i would first and foremost seriously consider whether or not i wanted to spend the rest of my life being an investment banker before i considered what the internship might do to my summer base training. there is a lot more than money in this world.
Internships are a joke so its possible.
Now going fulltime after school you'll probably give up running
I run for an elite academic institution where many of my teammates are in the Economics field and investment banking & financial consulting internships are common over the summer. From what I've gathered by talking with them and reading their logs, it is manageable. What seems to be inevitable is that you'll more than likely have to give up doubles and switch to one longer run. You'll be more dtired than usual due to longer work hours and a competitive environment. But in the end, it's really worth it and will propel you into the investment banking employment sector.
Best of luck!
bumpppppp
My significant other just finished up a career in investment banking and has many friends still working in the field.
I think it is worth it for ~4/5 years. Then i would get out. You'll be rich as hell by the time you are 30.
Pay scale looks something like this, including bonuses of course and assuming that you dont lose your job.
