Pre-heat your oven to 325, and get out a big oven pot with a lid.
Cut up one pound of a decent cut of steak. It doesn't have to be filet, but something of a higher grade like London Broil does the job nicely.
Brown it lightly in some extra virgin olive oil (not too much, use a low heat on the stove).
Add a can of french onion soup, any brand will do, I like Swanson. Total amount should be about 2 cups or a little more of the soup though.
Fill the empty can with red wine, and pour that in with the soup and the beef into the oven pot. Add a teaspoon or so of garlic (not too much!) and some mushrooms if you like mushrooms (I don't use them).
Put it in the oven for 2-2.5 hours, stirring once every hour or so. Serve with buttered noodles, a vegetable, and red wine. Classy, uncomplicated, delicious, just takes a little forethought and planning ahead.
