New phone...great, ipad...pretty cool, but if I can't use them without draining the battery, they are useless to me. How is there not new battery technology advancing like everything else? Or how come some genius can't find a better way to power these devices?

Big business. We can these things, but it would greatly hurt American companies. For example, we can make an electric car - but what about the gas companies. We can make tires that last an extremely long time - but what about the tire companies. We can make batteries that last longer - but what about the battery companies.
It runs deeper than you think. We put a man on the moon how many years ago? Think about that.
watched a documentary a few years ago "who killed the electric car." Interesting stuff in it, but you always need to keep an eye out for the real truth that might not be presented.
Either way, I recall it talking about a man who invented this great battery for a car that was just incredible. He sold it to an oil company and they have buried it until needed down the road.
Who knows but like others mentioned, it probably goes really deep to keep things away from the market.

Think about this for a moment, if we (and we can) make things last ten times longer, like a tire or a battery, or a car that got 75 mpg, think about the negative impact that would have on American workers. Tire companies would lay people off because consumers are not buying tires last they have. More Americans unemployed = bad.
The military has access to some of these durable products so the technology is there, but regular American products are designed to be purchased, used, and purchased again to generate the big $.
You people need to put on your tinfoil hats. I am sure you believe we have a cure for cancer and AIDS too. Or that fluoride in the water is a scheme to keep people docile.
People are working on longer lasting batteries. This is a difficult problem though. The battery for an ipod though will be very different then the battery for a car. An ipod battery needs to be small and long lasting but doesn't need to put out a lot of power at one time. The car battery is different. It needs to be light and long lasting but be able to put out large amounts of power in short bursts. Two different problems with two different solutions.
Do you really think that a company like Apple would suppress technology that led to longer battery life? Crazy.
Agreeing with this guy. Anyone who could make a much longer-lasting battery would be immensely wealthy. We're talking hundreds of billions of dollars. There are big technical challenges to improving the Li-ion batteries much beyond where they are now.
Miniaturization is what drives advances in technology, because it means more information can be stored in a smaller space (i.e. i-pods, i-phones, flash drives). The pace of miniaturization is dictated only by how small a transistor can be manufactured and at what cost.
Batteries are governed by the same electrical laws, but they are not used to store data, but to store power; people want more power and longer life out of them. It is difficult to miniaturize a battery and have it remain effective because there is a limit with current materials as to how small a battery may be built.
If you're apple with finite resources, do you work on improving features and reducing power consumption, or do you blow it all on slow-moving battery technolgy? Who wants a device with long battery life but outdated performance?
You guys do know that some dude invented a car that would run on water back in the 1970s, but the government hushed it up at the urging of the oil lobby, right?
Hey retard talking about Apple. They don't put advanced batteries in I-pods because it would drive the price of the ipod up. It's simple economics.
