It's February 13th and the "national governing body" of our sport doesn't even have the qualifying standards released or posted for either of the 2011 Outdoor senior or junior USA National Championships which are only four months from now.
It's truly incredible how the USATF continues to go down hill on the simplest things. We don't even have a CEO.
True story in 1998 I wrote a letter to Craig Masback with a question regarding the 2000 Men's Olympic Trials Marathon site selection and standards process. He took the time to write a hand-written letter response and mail it back to me.
Everyone has their faults, but can you even imagine anyone from USATF even doing that today. We can't even get qualifying standards posted or a clear process established for different national team selections printed anywhere.
Without a doubt, the main reason that the US has had any success in this sport is because of the college "farm system", the volunteers who coach post-collegians combined with the population of the US that provides the talent base. It has nothing to do with the national governing body.
The main thing that the USATF seems to be good at is paying for free vacations for their staff members to go on trips with teams, etc. Remind me again why we have to pay dues to be members of USATF?
