yeah, the gum smacking was totally unprofessional, distracting, annoying, etc.
as for Webb, no contrition is necessary, and I'm glad he didn't apologize for anything. He has not reason to. Every athlete, particularly those at his level, have a right to be emotional after a disappointing performance. It's OK in every other sport, and it should be OK in track. Just because Letsrun editorializes to the contrary doesn't make them right.
