There's a lot of tracks used by all levels out there that don't have rails. Should all the times from those tracks be ignored? I understand that UW sets their meets up for fast times and competition may seem secondary at times, but unless people were cutting corners off the track I don't think a lack of a rail really affected the times. Find something more important to be worried about.
Spare Me,
IF, and I say IF, there is a discrepancy with the cones, then the times are certainly affected. People complain about this every year, and people dismiss it, but the fact is cone placement does affect how far each athlete runs.
I won't get into exactly how much it affects times, but don't be naive and think it doesn't matter. It directly affects distance and therefore times, and I'm very surprised people don't turn it into the issue it should be.
Again, I'm not going to say Washington is or isn't short, but those cones did look fairly useless. Tracks are built with this into consideration. Keep that in mind.
People don't "turn it into the issue it should be" because it's practically negligible.
This thread:
People who are angry they never got to go run at Dempsey and run a fast time.
Maybe I am angry I didn't get to go to Dempsey and run on that short track!
Just kidding.
I'm only 14 and don't run. Just a fan / student of the sport.
Every cone I saw was touching the inside of the white line.
