I was looking at a recap of big events last year and saw this one. What was so innovative with getting them out? I saw a hole with a telphone booth and a cable. Why was that guy so smug in the audience. What exactly did he do that was so creative?

I didn't know you had to mine for chili, I thought it grew on bushes.

C'mon man...answer the question. What's so groundbreaking about pulling them up in a telephone booth.
They were able to deliver fresh and hot baby back baby back baby back baby back baby back baby back baby back ribs to those mine workers!

Smug?
Hahahahaha
I love this forum. I really do.
Some guy invents a new way to drill through a particular type of rock to save dozens of people. He is invited to the State of the Union address where he is obviously out of his comfort zone. He is put on national television and acts totally normal. Yet, you call him smug.
What about the woman from North Carolina who started tapping everyone around her saying, "that is me, that is me he is talking about!" Talk about smug.
I am no expert on the engineering challenges but I believe the rescue system was designed and buit custom to accomplish the rescue. It was a bit more intricate than a phone booth on a wire.
I think the look on anybody's face at the site would be a mix of joy, satisfaction (especially if they helped devise part of the rescue) and relief.

He was not at the site. He was back in the Burg working on another custom drill machine to save babies trapped in wells.
The guy is a hero. He wasn't even there when his machine saved millions of lives. He refused to accept the praise. When Obama invited him to Washington, he accepted b/c he said he could not turn down the President of the US.
He is humble, creative and super smart.

I was unsure what the O.P. was referring to when he mentioned the guy looking smug.

But so what! I don't think that's so impressive. Getting an phone booth looking apparatus down a hole to pull a couple guys out isn't much different than how they fixed the BP Oil spill by fixing a busted pipe in the ocean. I think Americans are impressed by simple things.
Did you actually form this thought in your hea before typing it out?

Not too sure what that is...
Just how high are you right now?

So you all agree then. The Chili Mine rescue was an overrated event of last year.
Trolling 101: when a third of the posts on your thread are by you, you have failed. Better luck next time.
C-H-I-L-E YOU DUMBASS! It's spelled Chile not chili!
And no one agrees with you. It was a big deal because of all the work involved to get them out plus the fact that all 33 miners survived a record 70 or so days.

Your good at math...
Oh, oh oh oh sweet chili mine
Is your life so pathetic that the only enjoyment you get is from denegrating other peoples accomplishments? No need to answer. This is what is known as a rhetorical question.
