I think thats a little bit different situation. I don't think I have ever seen a one-gender track meet. The individual races are for different classes, like having a JV and Varsity section, only for men and women. The trials are the same boat, there is a section for men and for women, and you have to meet certain guidelines to compete. One of those guidelines is that you must be of the appropriate gender.
I think women only races are fine, but it does irk me to know that I would NEVER be able to get away with a mens only race. If I hired a bunch of strippers to hand out the overly manly finisher medals, I'd probably get shut down, if not sued.
