Does the Army, or any other branch of the armed forces have a competitive running team? One in which enlisted soldiers could try out for/ compete on during the time in which they were enlisted?

All of the armed forces branches do.
Make sure Aurto Barrios isn't your coach.
You can apply to cross-country, army ten miler and marathon team at this site.

the army did away with the all army track.....it was pretty messed up anyway.

Could you elaborate on that? Thanks for the responses. Does being in the National Guard count? If i were to join the Guard and meet the "criteria" displayed on the websites would i be eligible to compete? Also, how does it work...? What i mean is say you were to apply and be accepted, what next? I COULD just google all of this, however id rather hear from someone who may have firsthand knowledge of this...Thanks in advance!
You can be selected from the national guard as well as active duty or reserve as long as you meet the criteria.
If you are active duty you will be sent temporary duty for the events--as long as your command approves and as long as you are not deployed.
If you are national guard or reserve you will be on temporary orders for the event. Once again, command approval (rarely a problem) and not deployed (can be a problem).
It is a good way to get some travel and pay to a few events but, it is in no way a means to make a living at running....these events are not connected to WCAP. If you are good enough for WCAP, you apply to that program separetly.
If the marathon is your thing and you are interested in the national guard, they do have an all-guard marathon team. Try outs are at the Lincoln marathon each May. Once again, not a way to make a living at running but, it will get you some cash and travel to events.
I would not join the army to run. I would join the army only if it interested me for other reasons and consider these events a bonus because I love running.
thanks again for the info. I wouldn't join just to run. Like you said, it would be an added bonus. Thats pretty much how i look at it. I was just curious to see if there was any chance to expand on my running while in the service.
