Background:
- male, 29, 5'8 150lbs
- 2 years running
- year 1 average 15-20mpw, longest week 30 on 3 days/week
- year 2 average 25-30mpw, longest week 40 on 5 days/week
2011:
- run 5 days week, incl. 1 tempo, 1 speedwork, 1 long run
- current pattern:
Monday OFF
Tuesday 50'
Wednesday 30'
Thursday 50'
Friday OFF
Saturday 30'
Sunday 80'
- Goal is to improve marathon time, I am happy with 5k and 10k speed
- I am willing to give up all speedwork and hard runs if this allows to get more miles in
- I actually run by time, not miles.
- I am prone to overuse crap injuries
I am thinking about adding 5' to my Tue/Thu and Sun runs every week (15' per week) until I get to 5:15 weekly / 35mpw ish, then I am not sure.
It would look like this: OFF, 75', 30', 75', OFF, 30', 105'
1) Is this a good way to increase mileage/time on feet?
2) How do I go from there? I'd rather run 2x 30' on recovery days for instance and keep 2 days off per week, but may try running 7x? Let me know a good way to get to 50mpw or roughly 7-7.5 hours of running (for me, yes, I am slow).
