Possible?
Possible?
He sure as hell deserves it.
I'm not sure I'd say he deserves it. However, in the market that exists, he may be worth it. How much longer can he put up those numbers though?
I certainly hope so. That means he'll sign with the Skankees for 10 years at that amount per, and their annual salaries will approach the 320 million mark!.....and they still won't win the series.
He won't sign with the Yankees. He'll be in St. Louis for his career.
Possibly, but not for 10 years. He's definitely worth it for 5, maybe for 7, but not locked in for 10. I'm a Cubs fan, and I'd love to see him wearing the blue pinstripes. I would not want to Cubs suffer for the second 5 years of that contract however. I can't see St. Lou not working something out with him. With the Yankees locked into a first baseman, I'm not sure anyone else out there has the cash to go 300 million. Hell the Pirates entire franchise isn't worth much more than that.

Or at least until they test him for HGH!!!
No. He is 31 and has an elbow issue. There is no way that anyone would pay him into his 40's at 30 mil a season. I don't see him getting 10 years or 30 mil/per. Maybe five years at 25 mil.
he's an 8 to 10 win player, so can you imagine if the Giants signed him to go with Posey and their great pitching staff? They'd be in the mid 90s in victories every year and contend for multiple series. Unlike Zito or Rowand, that'd be a great way for Sabean to spend their post WS bonanza.
I'm from St. Louis, love Albert, and would love to see him stay. All I can say is, I think Albert's ego is a little bigger than alot of people think. It surfaced a little bit when he signed his last contract. The Cardinals will offer an attractive contract, but not the kind of numbers he thinks he deserves. Here is where the ego is going to get in the way. He'll go to free agency after this year, sign for no more than the Cardinals are offering now (because his feelings got hurt), and regret it. His status will never be the same in another city beginning his career there at 32 years old.
Just my take.

He's a baseball player, he absolutely does not deserve it. Just because the Yankees gave A-Rod $250 million doesn't mean it makes sense.

So your saying he is only as good as Ryan Howard?
Yep.
Like I said before, he has a bad elbow at the age of 31. bad elbows don't get better with age.
If he gets a payday more than 25mil/per, I can guarantee you that the Cardinals will be battling the Pirates for the bottom spot in the division in a couple of years. They will have a banged up Pujols, an over-paid Holliday and nothing else.

Still won a MVP with that elbow. 5 years is pretty ridiculous. Of course power numbers generally decline in the mid-30s, but they are paying the best player of a generation. Slap in the face if you pay him around the same level of a lesser player like Howard(who is the same age). 7 years at 28-32 mill with bonuses for MVP seems to me to be fair compared to the market. Maybe a buyout or a team option on for that 7th year.
