Wejo, johnny langenwanker, you guys got it right.
LetsRun, keep up the awesome reporting - don't let all the negativity here get you guys down.
Just imagine if Webb were to carry himself like a Willis or Solinsky... much more sustainable and healthy behavior.
If Webb reaches the heights again, you guys will be all over him like a rash.

No, he meant epitaph. Webb was heard screaming shit like "REST IN PEACE" and "I TOLD YOU I WAS ILL".
lol
Letting out a single F-bomb isn't even close to the same thing as Webb's supposed tantrum. How many people in here have cursed at the finish line after a bad race? Yeah, its not very good sportsmanship, but who has never been pissed with the result of a race? If Webb's outburst was really as bad as described by the "unprofessional" article posted a few days ago then what Wejo did after this race is not even close to what Webb did after his.

Exactly. Why don't you read over the other thread to see what wejo's first hand account was?
Wejo was an 18 year old freshman. Webb is a 28 year old professional.
Weldon,
You aren't getting it.
The standards of conduct you mention that "might get reported" are the ones you clearly have violated in writing such material.
It is you guys, not Alan that are being scrutinized as a result. You guys are coming across as self righteous and immature and the more you try and support your position, the weaker your future credibility becomes.
It works both ways. You can write or report as you please, so long as you realize that your performance is also being judged accordingly.

"However, Olympic Trials or first race of the year, there is a standard of conduct that is expected and if you deviate too far from that it might get reported."

Mike,
It's you who aren't getting it.
He is reporting the truth. Webb's behavior is embarrassing, and that sort of self-absorption should not be promoted. Moreover, it was an editorial on a track website. It's like Wejo is the Press Secretary, and he just released a scathing editorial insulting the French. If you have a serious problem with the sort of maniacal behavior which Webb displayed being commented on in an editorial format, then go someplace where the truth isn't reported. The issue of credibility is not at hand. There are videos documenting what the editorial addressed.
Webb's behavior was a distraction. Why aren't you more critical of him, for drawing more attention from his tantrum than Russell Brown did for his win?
*Woops. I meant to say it's NOT like Wejo is Press Secretary.

Wejo also wasn't at the top at any point in his career and was never even close to the same league as the one Webb has been in for a decade. And after Wejo's race he didn't have a camera shoved in his face and what sounded like three guys asking him questions and basically encouraging him to vent for ten minutes. Every time he stopped talking the interviewers asked him to talk some more. He was clearly frustrated and they encouraged him to let out his frustration. You want to criticize someone for the interview, criticize Flotrack for posting it. I doubt any of you people would want a video of you losing it posted on the internet after three years of hardship that's been constantly weighing you down once again gets the better of you.
So Alan Webb has high expectations for himself. Why shouldn't he? He was a high school superstar, ran an American record at one of America's most loved distances and a world lead at a Golden League meet with one of the fastest 1500m times in American history. He entered this race because he thought he was ready. He was once again wrong and he was mad at himself for getting his hopes up. I think it would have been polite of Flotrack to not post the video, and I think Letsrun calling Webb out for being human is classless.
Johnny, you're not getting it. As mentioned before I actually attended the meet, and I believe their description was factually inaccurate at best, and sensational journalism at worst. Aside from whatever big event happened behind closed doors, the rest of the article does not do a proper job of explaining what I sat and watched after the meet. It was a disingenuous description drummed up for sensationalism (re:title). This article is only part truth and comes nowhere near the goals of the stated intentions of letsrun. These 'documented videos' that show his middle school like meltdown is one 25 second video of Alan running, a one minute video of them pretending not to film Alan and basically just being creeps, and a flotrack interview, which shows a frustrated Alan. None of that constitutes video proof of a tantrum or meltdown or whatever else has been thrown around. The only reason anyone is paying more attention to Alan Webb vs Russell Brown after this race is because of their decision to publish their story. Wejo only addressed those who agreed with him and dismissed a 13 page thread and now this 3 page thread which speak in the vast majority against this piece. It is not about everyone liking the article and making people happy as you lament in your post, its about journalistic integrity and smearing someones name.
I read the LR article about Webb's behavior and was embarrassed that Wejo & Crew used the word, "tantrum*", as it connotes childish behavior, versus using the word 'outburst'. But then I watched the video of Webbs offense and realized Wejo and the other writers used the proper semantics (Tantrum: "defiance, angry ranting, a resistance to attempts at pacification. The person may be unable to remain still, and even if the "goal" of the person is met he or she may not be calmed.").
Now the question is, whether they should have glossed over the reality of what happened or released the hounds (as they did)? I think what is best to remember is that, "Anyone may be prone to tantrums once in a while, regardless of gender or age." How each person reacts to another person's tantrum is their prerogative.
Sidenote: Could you imagine if T&F mattered to the general public and TMZ or Tosh 2.0 got ahold of that footage? Welcome to the digital age. Good luck to Nike and Flynn with the retroactive PR. I will not be surprised if Wieden & Kennedy pull a Tiger Woods/Lebron James** and use this negative press/moment to promote Nike through Webb.
*Tantrum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A tantrum is an emotional outburst, usually associated with children or those in emotional distress, that is typically characterized by stubbornness, crying, screaming, defiance, angry ranting, a resistance to attempts at pacification and, at some cases, hitting. Physical control may be lost, the person may be unable to remain still, and even if the "goal" of the person is met he or she may not be calmed.
A tantrum may be expressed in a tirade: a protracted, angry, or violent speech.
Tantrums are one of the most common forms of problematic behaviour in young children but tend to decrease in frequency and intensity as the child grows older. They may, however, be a predictor of future anti-social behavior.
Some people who have neurological disorders such as the combination of autism and/or mental retardation could be more prone to tantrums than others, although anyone experiencing forebrain damage (temporary or permanent) can suffer from tantrums. Anyone may be prone to tantrums once in a while, regardless of gender or age.

I love that webb threw a fit, tantrum or whatever. Guy gives it everything. Cares about this more than Wejo has ever cared about anything.
That's why you guys cant appreciate it plain and simple.

That really puts my tantrums to shame!
Of course Wejo is going to complement Johnny Langenwanker of doing an excellent job. They will also continue to ignore the other people who witnessed the event and whom disagree with the choice of wording and framing the crew of Letsrun constructed their article around.
Also...how come this was not posted in the "Week That Was"?

So where's the even-handedness? Why wasn't Geb criticized via editorial for his post-race tantrum when he retired after NYC, stealing a lot of the thunder from the winners? It was not the appropriate time and place to do that, he should've just said, "I'm disappointed and have no further comment" and then announced his retirement a week later with a fuller explanation. Just because Geb puts on a smile doesn't mean his similarly poor behavior should be above reproach.

Deep down, we're all rolling our eyes at the entitlement you're showing by inferring that. Be competitive throughout the race, not just when those you want to beat have already finished.
