yeah now if i can get him to coach me...
He's a Buffalo boy, section 6. from a suburb of Buffalo NY anyway. Maybe sweethome high school?
to the original queston: no. that would be nolan shaheed...
You can. Expect to pay about $500/month.
Charlie is a Sweet Home High School graduate and ran at Kentucky. Coached at York (IL) with Newton. NY state champ in the mile in high school, team champs in XC, 2x Kinney XC qualifier. Also, a really nice guy. Glad to see him competing in his 40s.
Agreed that he is a nice guy. Didn't know him too well but looked up to him (ran for Jamestown). He was a couple years ahead of me. I actually introduced myself at Dogwood Relays (forget what its called now...Searays or whatever) when I got to college and he remembered my name and my older teammate. He was really supportive of how my running was going, and he barely knew me! Pretty rare these days it seems. Anway...enough of memory lane :)
Is Art Seimers a masters runner yet?
Speed alone in mid-distance? It's tough to pick anyone other than Charlie right now. I ran in that NB meet and with the exception of Lance, he made some very talented, (myself not included) tough Masters look like they were in a different race.
Shaheed is amazing, but then if you're talking age relative to how one measures up to their like competition, I think you have to consider Reno Stirrat (though more long distance) and Bill Riley as well.
Man, Charlie looked smooth out there, out front from the gun and then just accelerating through every turn.

If you put your e-mail up, he will e-mail you back.
Charlie Kern is a wonderful person and runner. He coaches a few elite runners in the Chicago suburbs, but right now, there is no one that can touch him in the mile for Masters.
He has dealt with a lot of adversity in the past, but still has done great things for the sport of running. It's awesome to see him still tear up the track. He was a former 4 flat miler back in his days at Kentucky.
I have to admit, I had no idea who he was at the start of the race. I could not believe how he badly he spanked everyone. I sure hope he's going to nationals.
My bottom still hurts.

Tony Young may have slowed too much to run with Charlie, but Jim Sorensen can definitely compete and there are likely one or two more out there. Let's see what happens as we get into outdoor.
He certainly is running on fire. Masters track provides the competition and the excitement to keep that internal fire burning. Wonder what his personal goals are this season. This is great for master’s track.
You see this more and more now, former runners who were close to 4 minutes or 1500 equiv, maybe a bit unfulfilled or with something to prove to themselves.
Personally I think it is great, keep 'em coming.
It sort of started with Tony Young who was close to 4 flat in his youth.
Can’t wait to see how fast Charlie can get this year, especially outdoors.
Don’t know if Charlie runs the 800 or is more of a miler -3K runner, but certainly you can’t discount Sorensen as formidable competition, I have yet to see a master’s runner out-kick him.

Middle distance is 800 - 5000 meters.
Run with who? Sorensen or Kern? I'm confused.
I guess I would say, many more can run with Kern, not many with Sorensen
Brian Erb is a master know. There is a new sheriff in town.
Since the record's under 4, why is 4:19 such an outstanding time.
