I'm a 16 year old male hoping to break 5 in the 1600m in a race on Thursday.
I have been doing about 35 mpw for about 11 weeks now and have done a couple of workouts that I hope indicate that I'm in shape to break 5.
Today I did this workout:
1x1000m in 2:59
400m jog
5x200m in 5 minutes, so 35 seconds for each 200m and then 25 seconds rest in between each 200m
400m jog
1x600m in 1:46
And last week I did this workout:
3 sets of 1000m, 400m, 400m
I got 3:02, 67, 66 for the first set
3:11, 66, 68 for the second set
3:16, 67, 66 for the third set
In between each rep, I had 200m walk and then 400m jog; this includes in between sets
I did this workout in a parking lot due to the snow, so the distances may not be entirely accurate, but I was using a Garmin and it's usually really accurate.
My PR right now is 5:10 but I have not run a mile race for literally about a year. Can I break 5 on Thursday???
