I don't have time to eat before morning runs, because I start them before 6AM, more like at 5:30 if I want to squeeze in more than 10-12 miles.
My morning look like this - 5:00 -5:10 AM wake up, quick cup of coffee, bathroom, out within 25 minutes of waking up. Most of my mileage (90-120 mpw) is done one empty stomach in the early mornings.
I used to think too much about food before morning runs when running in college, waking up an hour before run to digest the food a little, but I don't see any benefit eating so close to running anymore, because the food cannot be digested properly and fuel your muscles. Maybe for runs of 2-3 hours, but I had done plenty of those without any food, just coffee and water.
It's more about the head games than physiology. I would rather spend extra 15 minutes running, than eating negligible amount of food that would irritate me during the run.
Before races, I wake up at least 3 hours before the start, so I eat something light - like toast and honey or jam and coffee plus water.
Fueling hapens the night before anyway.
