He's a great runner Rupp, always looking relaxed at speed.

He's on the verge of moving up a class further I reckon, hopefully if he says fit until summer we will see something really special

Mo is saying he would like to be close to the British record of 13:21. I think it is clear he will run considerably faster than this based on an opener of 7:35.

I predict 13:06 for Mo and 13:15 for Galen Rupp. Is it feasable that Mo could even get close to 13:00 indoors? Birmingham is a fast track

Shame. I'm guessing that Rupp wants a rematch with Farah after Endinburgh Cross and actually realizes he has a chance of winning. Much rather see him in Dusseldorf though to actually face real World competition- but I guess it's his choice. Good luck to Rupp either way.

I predict Rupp under 13:15, maybe under 13:10 if the pace is right.

why do you think rupp will drop out of dusseldorf?

there is 8 days between races, plenty of time to recover

IF he were to only want to run 1 but not both dusseldorf and birmingham, why not skip birmingham for 2 reasons.

1. even without yenew dusselorf still seems to have the stronger feild (though that could change with additions to birmingham).

2. supposedly rupp wants a very fast time in new zealand on february 26th, (one poster said 26:47 which would smash the american record)

3. running dusseldorf would give him 15 days between his goal race in new zealand, while birmingham would only give him 7 days before his AR attempt in new zealand.

Rupp ran just under 13:15 almost exactly a year ago. Its been reported that he has increased his mileage and is noticeably stronger in workouts. If you think that Mo Farrah will run 13:06 it seems very reasonable Rupp would do better than 13:15.

not to say that he will do it right out of the box, but with that xc performance and a series of strong workouts since he would not be entering a Euro 5k without the belief that he can beat Lagat's indoor AR (13:11, I think). I think that he can get the indoor record this year and he should be close to the outdoor (10k) record at Stanford, if not already in NZ, which is awfully early to break 27.

We can only hope and pray that Rupp's pre and post race behavior is up to wejo, rojo and employee #1 standards.

I don't see why it should matter since an outdoor track is 400 meters. Granted there is no "weather" indoors.

That is correct. Indoor field events and races of 400m and above count for outdoor qualifying, unless the track is oversized. He might just want the 5k standard, but he could get that in this country. To go to Europe and mess with his training suggests that he wants something more.

Incidentally, the A standards are all over the map in difficulty. Considering that no qualifying times from the previous year (okay: you could get one in October, but how when there is no track in October/November?), the qualifying times are pretty tough in some cases. 1:45.40 (women's is 1:59.8) is a step up from 1:46, and quite difficult. By contrast, 13.52 110mHH is something achieved by many Americans. 2:17 is the men's marathon A standard, far off the 800m standard, in my view, but much, much tougher than the women's A standard of 2:43! To put that in perspective, the men's standard is just 13 minutes slower than the world record, whereas the women's standard is 28 minutes slower than the women's world record. 3:35.00 is a significant step up for the men's 1500m and 27:40 is pretty fast for the 10000m, given the lack of opportunities, but it looks like we should have at least three qualifiers in every men's event.

Only Huling and Bruce have the steeple "A" so far, I believe. Will a third achieve that mark before nationals?

Neither has the A standard.
