Agreed!! I think Alan won USATF XC 3 times. That's quite the snub.
I think Alan Culpepper also has the record for the most number of times qualifying for world xc's and not going. He never seemed to be in it for the glory... just the paycheck. Still a fast mo-fo. And a decent guy notwithstanding.
the criticism of culpepper was that he would qualify for international competition but then almost never run in the European summer meets prior to the championships, and thus never arrive race sharp or accustomed to the pace and race tactics. Even his American road races would usually lack much competition. Still a really fine career for an American distance runner.
Point is, he needs to be mentioned first. . .
He really didn't race much in Europe, did he? Why was that?
