Some kid that you've never heard of.
800- johnny gray 1:42

3k - bernard lagat 7:29
5k - chris solinsky 12:54
10k - chris solinsky 26:46
wouldn't be shocked if ritz took away the 10k or 5k from solinsky. in my opinion, right now, wheating and solinsky are the only ones who have shown proof they are within striking range of radically altering the present records.
men
800-johny gray 1:42.60
1500-andrew wheating 3:27.80

it would be fun if we could look at these on december 31st 2020 and look at who panned out and who did not, what new names will emerge etc.
800- 1:42.60 Gray
1500- 3:28.70 Wheating
mile- 3:46.91 Webb
3k- 7:29.00 Lagat
5k- 12:51 Chelenga
10k- 26:39 Chelenga
Sorry to the native Americans, but once (if?) Sam Chelenga gets his citizenship I expect he will put the records out of reach. He ran 27:08 training at LIBERTY. Once he gets into one of those Nike groups, he will put the records out of reach.
If anyone is going to break the 800m or 3000m records, we don't know who they are yet.
Nice. 2nd.

You have very high expectations.

10 years is a long time, bernard lagat has age against him so who knows, they have to get faster just to stay competitive.

This might be accurate. Not the names but the country. The US will forge ahead in PED development because they have the most money and becuase, contrary to Letsrun belief, they are not magically more honest than the rest of the world.
Sorry to the native Americans
your apology is accepted
I would also like to apologize to the Native Americans, it wasn't my idea.
What makes you think there will be an America in 2020?

I too have no doubt that the American records will still be held by Americans in 2020.

I think the American recordholders for 2020 are now living and growing up elsewhere. With a combination of political or economic instability there, the family will come to America and their runner son will become an American citizen over time.
A successor to Gebreselassie or Bekele will show up at a school in the U.S. as a kid and most every one of those records will be his by age 21.
I'm not talking about an older looking runner who shows up, claims to be 17, and narrowly wins whatever they call Kinney/Footlocker/Nike national CC races then, but the real deal. He will be a young phenom.
t's just a matter of time before distance running has its equivalent of Wilt Chamberlain, the one with no prior parallel, who redefines performances and expectations. He will be the kid who takes the record at Van Cortlandt Park from the very low 15s into the high 13s, and does the same at Belmont Plateau in Philly, Mt. Sac, Balboa, UW Parkside, etc, possibly even before his senior year, leaving that for a win in Chicago or New York.
It's just a matter of time, and probably within the next nine years. If not the next Gebresellassie/Bekele, the one after that, will move here young and grow up to be amazing.
