So let's just say I got a little bit carried away at work the other day because of an annoying co-worker who bragged about breaking 6 minutes in the mile. I ended up saying big deal my daughter who is in HS can run under 12 for TWO miles. Anyway she is close but ran 12:16 last season and her goal for this season is to definitely get under 12, the more the better.
BUT, this coworker was skeptical and didn't believe it and has challenged her to a 2 mile race. I told her about it and she is a competitor and was very into it and wants to do as well as possible too.
Ok anyway 2 days ago we went to the track and she ran a mile on the track by herself (there was about a 10 mph wind) in 5:52 with splits of 88, 90, 88, 86. This shows me that she had something left at the end (and I think she did because she recovered fairly quickly and went at a good pace on the cooldown), it was her first race situation in a while besides a random race she ran in 2-3 weeks ago. She is also putting in good mileage right now.
Anyway is it possible for her to break 12? She doesn't mind taking the 2 or 3 days before the race easy (for this mile time trial she ran 10 miles in 2 runs 2 days before it and 6 miles with strides the day before) and just doing a few miles which could cut off some time.
