I totally agree.. Oregon, as most of us know, always feels the need to talk about themselfs and toot their own horn. Just ignore all these track town USA fruitloops..

It's so stupid to get excited about a runner who went undefeated in cross. The only runners I'm excited about are Shalane and Brent. Nobody else has done anything good in the last day or two. I wish everyone would stop living in the past and looking forward to the future. Live in the NOW.

hs record for the indoor 5k, hs sophomore record for the mile, which was previously held by mr. webb, one of only 3 2-time footlocker winners, only a junior leaving hs early. there's as much potential there as anybody not named webb or ryun.

Why are you so hung up on Lukas's mile and how he compares to Webb as a miler? Webb was and is a miler. Lukas is a distance runner who has run a few mile races.

just to point out a few things. he only has the sophomore mile record because he was a year older than normal. and he's a senior leaving on time now, not early, since he skipped junior year so that he'd graduate at the normal age.

since the big 3 of 2001 we've had several great runners who've come close to 4 minutes or have broken other records (lukezic, rupp, fernandez, lukas, etc.) but i gotta say lukas seems like he is gonna be the only one of those to actually go sub 4 (i'm thinking 3:58 outdoors) and he's more of a distance guy than a miler. we'll have to see how the rest of his season goes, but he will probably be the best runner coming out of high school since webb. (of course that'll depend on what he does in the mile, 2 mile, and possibly 5k this year)

Webb ran that outdoors in the summer after his senior year. Lukas V is still in the indoor season and could develop quite a bit from February to June/July and will probably do much better in outdoor track anyway.

He is not a miler but is number 3 all time indoors in the mile and its his first indoor race this season. Plus he is the first Nike/Footlocker champ, beating the best in the nation on two consecutive weekends when almost all of his competitors were fresh and running only one of the national championships. One of only 3 people to win 2 Footlocker championships. He ran 14:44 at midwest regionals despite slowing down a lot after he knew he had won. His Pr for the mile is 10 seconds off of what Webb ran in HS, but thats outdoors, he is only 4 seconds off what Webb ran indoors in HS, and its his first indoor race of the year.

He's also wrong about another thing. Verzbicas broke Jeff See's sophomore mile record, not Webb's.

Webb ran 3:59 INDOORS at the Armory on January 20 of his high school senior year. He was the same age then as Lukas is now. Lukas' time is #3 on the US high school indoor mile list.

But Lukas is well behind Webb at the present point in his career.

This is not a difficult case to crack. He's the top high school runner in the country, therefore, he's going to get a lot of attention.

Whatever Hall or Ritz or Webb did is irrelevant.

I guess I am not as excited for this HSer as I was Fernandez. LV ran what...14:14 or something like that for an indoor 5k all alone as a frosh? To me that was by far his biggest and best performance to date. To me he hasn't lived up to that 14:14 frosh performance since it was run.

Also, he has been training for tri's for a long time. So he only runs 60mpw but he does a lot of other things to supplement that mileage.

I hope he improves and becomes a world beater, but I don't think he has improved drastically throughout high school, and I definitely don't see him having a GF freshman improvement based on that.
