That young man is krazy talented, thanks for the video!
The second mile he was gesturing, crossing himself, seemed to have way too much extra energy. 7:23i might be in jeopardy within a year.
gus did most of the hard work late on & the 'thopy got a free ride thru drafting
if he wants faster, he'll have to almost inevitably have to run the last km on his own
canova reckoned he's got to be a 12'45 talent last year after his 7'28 with some stops/starts on last lap & he's gotta be worth 3'31/3'33 outdoors
trying :
12'45 with
3'33 ->7'25.0
3'32 ->7'24.2
3'31 ->7'23.3
he won't be going 7'23i anytime soon
i think he might be worth something in latter 2 lines currently
Eldrick:
If he's "worth" 7:23-7:24 in your estimation, don't you think you could extend him the respect of calling him Alamirew Yenew, or something a little less cringe-inducing than "the 'thopy"?

that 7'23/7'24 is off someone else's hard work
komen/hicham/morceli/geb made all that hard running themselves in last km - no free rides
that's why this run is significantly less impressive
i'm actually more surprised by gus :
his 5k ability has been shit for past coupla years as he's turned into a 1500/800 guy
that run has to be worth 7'25/7'26 outdoors & if he's still got close to 1'45 speed currently :
1'45 with
7'26 ->3'29.3
7'25 ->3'29.1
he might get into the 3'28s this year if he matches his 800pb of high-1'44 with this 3k endurance

Would you be happy if I called him a wabbit you idiot.
This kid will replace KENEISA BEKELE.

I doubt it. This guy is very talented but unlike Kenenisa, he does not have the guts to dictate the mood of the race. Kenenisa normally attacks from the word go, making his opponents lose balance and shift to survival tactics(watch his moves). This is very effective in that psychologically, his opponents already lost their own game plan. I hope Alamirew matures into that kind of a runner then we can talk about Daniel Komen's world records becoming a thing of the past. At the moment Alamirew looks like Asbel Kiprop who has excellent talent but engages in show-offs.
I am very impressed with Yenew Alamirew!
He has an amazing stride, even better than Bekele.
This was his 1st race ever indoors. I see no reason he needed to attack from the front. Neither did Bekele in his earlier career on the track, often letting Geb take the lead to the sprint. Well I'm excited. It looks like not only one but maybe even several runners can go after Bekele's records, and Komen's 3k is in reach.
they had to lap a ton of guys with around 200m to go and alamirew's stride looked so easy. very good closing speed, 26.3 w/the lapping and passing Choge around the tight turns. He's got what it takes to win major championships. With Choge leading the pace really lagged after 2k, with 31s and 32s until the end.
Yenew Alamirew Runs 7:28.82 in Milan. The making of the new Anbessa. Alamirew seems unstoppable. Adisu Teshay Mebrat Jemerol.

uhhhhhhhgggghhhh.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHYYkZpZGjoventolin, did you apply any slurs to silas kiplagat after he drafted to his 3:28 or to rudisha after his personal pacer led the way to his wr's? it's a kenyan thing.
silas ran a low-3'29 which he owes choge a big favour for
i was expecting choge to hold on & get into the 3'28s - he is a better talent & can go 3'28 this year off that 7'28i if he still has 1'45 speed
rudy ran the 800wr with the classical method - pacer to bell & solo last 400 - albeit pacer was of no benefit to him as he ran too far in front & offered no drafting - in effect a solo 800wr - massively impressive
the 'thopy drafting behind choge for ~ 800m between 2 - 2.8k saved himself ~ 2s in energy
if choge instead was the draftee, i'd have suggested well over 50% chance he wouda won the kick finish, but that is not his style
if they had run the race in "classical" 3k fashion with wabbit to 2k & solo last 1k like all the greats, in separate races, choge woud still have run close to 7'28 whereas the thopy wouda been nearer high-7'29
Repeat after me: Yenew. Ye-new. Two syllables, five characters, not so hard. Will you give it a try, please?
you are clearly impressing the board with your spelling ability
do you tell all your clients :
"that is a quarter-pounder & french fries, sir" when they ask you for a burger & sides ?
I don't care how you spell it - most posters here can't spell Americans' names right, much less those of Kenyans or Ethiopians.
I just think you should refer to the athlete in question, Alamirew Yenew, by name, and not by a term that is juvenile-sounding and even a little offensive.
now i heard it all !
an american board & being told not to be offensive to a parasite-clinging runner from a shithole 99% of the western world hasn't heard of
i don't post on letsrunthopy.com, so maybe you shoud stick to there if you find western attitudes here too upsetting to your gentle sensibilities
I'm just happy to keep this topic at the top of the first page, as it's a fantastic performance that probably wasn't noticed by all, amid the furor over Webb's race and its aftermath.
So then: are you claiming to represent "Western attitudes" by refusing to call Ethiopian runners except by infantilizing diminutives?
