I'm writing this on behalf of a friend who is a coach at a very small rural high school and is in her first year as head track, 2nd year total. She ran D1 and is having a hard time adjusting to the short season and limited dedication of these kids.
Most of the students do multiple sports and will not be working out for track until Feb 14th. District will be April 11th. That gives 7 weeks (not including spring break) to get the kids into shape. She gave them a workout schedule to do on their own over the winter, but of course none of them did it.
They are not talented enough to make it out of district very easily, so that will have to be the race they train and peak for. None of them will never run track in college at any level expect maybe one of the girls if she gets her sh!t together.
So what do you do with a bunch of out of shape kids and only 7 weeks? Do one/two weeks of mileage only? She's asking me for advice but I don't know what to tell her.
She will basically have two groups, a distance group and a 400m group. The other events are another coaches responsibility.
