who would win????? i think bolt would have it....

no way. Lagat could be competitive in world class races. Bolt is not world class in the 800m.
You are an idiot.
Lagat wins

Whoah there killer
Legat wins easy
The question should be at 600m.
0/10
bolt could jog a 60 flat for a warmup then drop a 45 or 46
lagat would run more even splits.
I think it would be interesting. If bolt runs 400 intervals at all in practices then i think he would surprise some people

Lagat. Not even close. A better match up would be Bolt v. Lagat at something closer to 400m, or maybe 500m.
Alan Webb has won a world class 800m, and I don't think he's THAT much better, if any, than Lagat over 800m. Usain Bolt has yet to win any sort of comparable 400m race as far as I know.

This is the proper response
Wowser! Where to begin?
In high school, at my conference meet I saw Brandon Campbell win the 100m (10.6), 200m (21.?), 400m (50ish), and 800m (1:58) all in the same race. He had never raced the 800 before and beat the defending conference champion. (This is a guy who could have also won the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. He jumped 7'-1" at a previous meet that season.)
So don't be surprised in Bolt could manage a quick 800m, especially if he adds some mileage base to train for it.

A "quick" 800m? You mean, like, 1:58?
Did you forget that Lagat has run 3:29? This matchup, this distance is one of the most absurd ever proposed...
Lagat would win by 200+ meters, simply because Bolt would give up after falling behind significantly. Honestly, he'd probably dnf.
Bolt's 800m PR is 2:06 or 2:08. He is NOT going to run mileage. He doesn't even jog warmups (strideouts instead). He will do the long jump, play professional cricket, run the 400 decades before he will compete in a distance contest.
Bolt vs Lagat in the NBA Slam Junk contest (Bolt can dunk--easily) would be just as idiotic.
the obvious i suppose wrote:

actually, buddy, lagat has run 3:26. You know, the second fastest 1500m time in history...

Should you have been let out?

well buddy, you think this makes that big of a difference? i doubt that gets bolt any closer to lagat in an 800m.
way to change the topic of a thread, though, from the absuridty of the OP's imaginined race, to my lack of instantaneous PR recall of famous runners.
kudos to you, i suppose.
QUICK. What's Seb Coe's 5000 pr?

Uh, no he couldn't. Just because you use the verb "jog", 60 flat is not a easy and Bolt wouldn't be the most efficient person running a 60 flat. I'm not sure if anyone could do a 60 followed by a 45, maybe Rudisha.
Coe's 5k time is not notable. Lagat's is because only one person has ever run faster. Not comparable. Just admit you were wrong
