I´m 26, 30lbs over racing-weight.
Old PRs 4:29 mile and 16:06 5k off about 50-60mpw.
What can I shoot for? or should is there not enough time to aim for time and should I just be worried about finishing it?
training tips are welcome.
thanks!

You're 30lbs overweight? Cancel your plans. You shouldn't be considering running a half marathon until you've
1) lost the weight through low-impact means like swimming
2) run for a few months consistently

for me it used to be 135lbs I was really skinny, now am 165lbs and I´m 5´6, I´m not even fat.
thanks, for the concern though.

don't kid yourself dude, your bmi is 26.6, 25 is considered overweight to put things into perspective
Look, a buddy of mine ran a half marathon in November 2009 when he wasn't really in shape. Big mistake. He injured himself and hasn't been able to run ever since. This was a pretty good D1 runner, too. You're post reminded me of him.
I´ll probably just run the 10k then...
thanks for the reality check
If you really want to lose the weight you should run the whole marathon.
call them and change the race for half a thon to 10k or something less serious. your health is priority #1. No need getting hurt over reaching. or just jog the fricking thing don't race it. Have fun.

that was my original plan, jog it and make a few surges if I feel good.
You got about 7 weeks to build up for the half. That's enough time to get in shape so the race does not injure you for life or anything.
A good build up would be something like this:
Week 1- 2miles every other day with a long run of 4
Week 2- 3 miles every other day with a long run of 5
Week 3- start running pretty much every day 3-4 miles long run of 6
Week 4- 4-5 miles while throwing some fartleks and tempoish paces in there long run of 8
Week 5- Same as week 4 but with a 10 mile long run .
Week 6- Same as week 4
Week 7- Take a couple days off or do some real light jogging and you should be able to get through the half with out killing yourself too bad.
Go slow. Good Luck.
But if you're anything like me, you won't be able to "just run slow" in a race. Even when I'm out of shape, I think I'm a hero and try to kill it. So it's better for me to just stay out of races when I'm not in shape. I don't have the restraint to not run hard in a race.
Dude, with 7 weeks to train you should be able to lose about 15 lbs to get to 150. You should also be able to build up to about an hour a day by the 6th week. Based on your high school prs, I think you can run about 1:30 if the course is fairly flat.
