Sorry if my English is below average.
Run More Miles. It is not about the percentage of quality miles you run, it is about the number of quality miles you run. It is better to run 100 miles with 60% quality than to run 70 miles with 80% quality.
Get a wife. One less thing to distract you from running.
Eliminate negative people from your life. They are not worth the hassle.
Eat more protein and more vegetables. Stay away from fruits, as they are filled with sugar. Water and unsweet tea are good, coffee is okay. Stay away from dairy. This adjustment takes time. (Approaching a race, however, carbs are crucial)
Sleep A LOT. 8 hours is okay, 10 is better.
Stretch. Dynamic and static.
If you are going to ice, do it after you stretch.
When you finish stretching or icing, sit down and stay down. Stay off of your legs until the next run. This is extremely important.
Run without a watch - if you feel like speeding up, speed up. If you feel like slowing down, slow down. This is why Americans get beat in championship finals. Distance races are not tempo runs, they are fartleks.
Stay off the roads. Find the best trail you can find (with hills) and run it every day. Move next door if possible.
Do not complain about not having enough time. Bannister ran sub 4 in medical school.
Train through indoor season.
Get rid of distractions. Internet, television, video games.
Do strides on all days.
Train to break the world record. Aspiration is king.
Do 12k workouts at 10k pace, and you will feel great at 9600. Applicable to most distances.
Someone else is always training harder than you. If you can not make the sacrifice, do not complain when you lose.
If you want an eye-opener, the Kenyans run 3 times each day.
