I started running just for the enjoyment of running. My favorite distance to watch and participate in has always been 6.2 miles.
In the Army I was asked by one of our trainers to run a timed 800m and did 2:26 on a soft dirt track in flats. He said I had alot of basic speed and would be better at middle distance than long distance. After the Army I started running on my own and was doing 25 miles a week and every 3 weeks I added 5 miles til I reached 50 miles a week. After 4 1/2 months I ran a 5km road race and ran 16:32 and was spotted by a local coach. Over the next year I dropped my 800m time to 1:52.90 and then was relocated and I started a family.
I'm moved to Tampa and just resumed training, I wonder if anyone know of a good half miler coach or running club? I was 26 yrs old when I ran my personal best and was too old to compete on a college team. I have 2 years til I turn 30 and would like to try to run under 1:50 before then.
