I don't want to start a debate about homosexuality, so please keep this thread on topic.
In our attempt to see all of the Oscar noms prior to the big contest next month, we rented The Kids Are All Right last night.
Why is this movie up for an Oscar? Seriously, the film isn't bad, but it is nothign special. It handles pretty stereotypical situations/characters with one dimension of focus and rarely makes you think at all.
There is nothing special about the script, plot or camerawork, and while the actors are decent, no one really stands out. In fact, Benning is downright abrasive (and I do not believe that is FULLY intended).
I have read all of the reviews this morning, and it appears that the critics saw a different film that I.
Now, I am not opposed to a gay comedy/drama at all. I enjoy many of them. I just didn't think this film was any better than a Tyler Perry movie or something of that nature.
Anyone disagree? Can you shed some light on what I am missing?
Thanks.
