Well, lets hope the military keep their powder dry.
America always naively imagines some sort of democracy is the outcome of overthrowing dictatorships in areas like the Middle East, Far East and Africa.
Dream on - I can’t think of many democracies in these areas after years of violent upheavals.
What seems the likely outcome to the turmoil in Egypt could be a re-run of what happened in Algeria in the late 80’s.
There - also a dictatorship was overthrown, but the resulting first round of ‘democratic’ elections was won by the extremist Islamic Salvation Front, (the Egyptian equivalent is the Muslim Brotherhood) which wanted to impose Sharia law.
Opposed to Muslim totalitarian rule, the army cancelled the elections and seized power.
About 150,000 died in the resulting civil war - but the army is still in power, thank goodness.
It’s all rather worrying, because I feel it only needs a spark somewhere for the markets to panic and start the ball rolling for the world to tumble prematurely into the disastrous international financial collapse that’s hovering just over the horizon.
I hope Egypt isn’t the catalyst.
