Anybody know who ran the fastest last 10k during a marathon and what was the time?
There might be more info about the 20 mile to finish split available.

I had always heard anecdotally that Baldini's closing 5K in Athens 2004 was one of the fastest ever, but I don't know about 10K.
Does Haile G. hold the record for fastest last kilometer in a marathon? He was widely reported as running a 2:36 last year in Dubai, when he needed to shake two other Ethiopians late in the race, an unusual situation for him.

2:36 - incredible.
Also high on the list but easy to forget as the years goes on:
Ronalda Da Costa 1998 - huge negative splits, 1:04:42, 1:01:23! (2:06:05 WR)
According to this site
http://hzhang.org/running/negative_splits.htmhe dropped a 2:47 from 40-41...
Nobody has run the last 7.142 Km in the Fukuoka Marathon than A. Fujita in the year 2000 (below '20)

I'm pretty sure the relevant split here was that he went 28:57 from 30K to 40K.
Geb went 29:09 from 30km to 40km in his 2:03:59. Can't find km splits but I bet from 32 to 42 he was sub 29. He also went 29:12 from 30 to 40km in his first WR. That's closing races.
What was Baldini's final 5k time in Athens?

Some split information is available here:
http://www.rrm.com/newsarchives/archive10/2010%20Chicago%20Marathon%20Statistical%20Reference%20file.pdfThe fastest last 7.195km listed there is 20:29, for Geoffrey Mutal, Eindhoven 2009, with a finishing time of 2:07:01.
Antonio Pinto, 3 time winner of London Marathon ran 29:02 for his last 10K of his 2:06:36 win in 2000, watched the race and he turned what looked like being a pretty pedestrian run into something quite special, he just blew the field apart and ended up with a European Record, one which still stands today i think
Wow. Might have had something <2:05 in him in his perfect race...

Kebede broke it when he ran 2:05 in '09. But Geb, Wanjiru, Merga etc. and Kebede's first try were all slower than Fujita over the last 7.195.
