i'm a 18 year old senior in hs. my family moved to a new hs this year (different jobs) and my new hs doesnt have a track team unfortunately. but im stil training on my own, only it will be hard to get into meets starting around march when hs races start. anyway theres one meet i really want to get into which is in the 3rd week of february and entries are due in 2 weeks, minimum time to get in is 5:35 for the 1600.
anyway yesterday the public hs 7 miles away that has a track team let me come and run their pre season 1600 time trial with them (i wont be able to run with them now because the season has officially started) and i ran 5:51 with splits of 86, 2:53, 4:22, 5:51. i usually have a good kick and finish fast but i locked up with 600 to go and my arms felt numb and stiff (it was windy and a slight drizzle, i live in the pacific northwest). i started doing an occasional track workout 2 weeks ago but nothing very intense and ive been doing 50 miles a week through the winter.
last season my first race around the 2nd week of march was 5:53, so im in better shape now than i was then. my ultimate pr was 5:45 which i ran in april because after that i stopped running the mile to focus on the 2 mile, if i had run the mile in my best shape it could have probably been ~5:40 but thats all speculation.
is it possible or unlikely that i can pr in 2 weeks? what sort of workouts should i do, lots of race pace ones? thanks!
