As I will be going to a Canadian University in the fall I was wondering if anyone knew what the programs at McMaster,Guelph and Western are like. Specifically the Men's XC programs.

I don't suppose you thought to give Google a whirl before posting on letsrun? Maybe help you formulate better questions that "what the programs are like"?

Well Guelph is f**cking legit.
In terms of running Guelph is by far the best, not even close.
Check out Windsor they run guelph to the line, very strong in 800-1500.
With no scholarships they have in the 1500

I don't think any school in Canada has scholarships for running.
Um, yeah wrote:

Well assuming makes and ass out of you, not that you probably weren't one before this. Of course I've looked at each schools information on their program sites, I then came here and posed the question" what are their programs like?" to get the opinion of people (other then the people who's job it is to promote a program, aka the people who make the school sites). I don't suppose you thought to give thinking a whirl before posting on letsrun?
Canadian universities can give athletic scholarships up to $3500/year, with the stipulation that the award is also based on academic merit.
Ever consider out west? Reasonable tuition and a solid squad that's still building at the U of Regina.
Eew ! You'll get the clap from them puck fags in CanadIa.

+1
I know DST, the coach at Guelph and he is the real deal. Excellent person and technically fantastic. There is also a critical mass of good runners there that comes around every few years whenever the stars align.
He can be tough but will always be fair. If you want to do the work and you want to be a runner, you won't go wrong there.
Western has a great history and is an awesome party school. It also may still carry some more weight in corporate Canada but the running scene is not as evolved or as hot as Guelph these days.
Windsor is a great school for running, but its educational reputation is the worst of the bunch and living in Windsor is out of the way compared to the other more central schools.
The coaches at Mac are also great people, but Guelph is just in another league.
I don't know recruiting rules, but email Dave and he will tell you what you need to know.
Thanks for your responses everyone!
Go to Mac or Western... chances are if you're posting here your not going to make the guelph or windsor team, might as well go somewhere you will actually compete...
I.F., is that you!?

U of R is a joke school.
And there are few places to live in Canada worse than Regina. Especially during the winter, i.e. the school year.
U of R was not an option simply because of that, motivation is important and it's just not a place I'd want to live.
Guelph is totally legit. Great running school and great running town. The speed river track club is outstanding. I would dare to say that it is the best running community in Ontario.
Hey CanRunner. Are you set on Ontario or willing to go out of province?
What sort have times haves you run?
Uvic's won a ton of 4x800's and seem to consistently have top guys in 800-1500 range. Their XC program finished 4th in the country this year so they're no slouches in that category.
Also, Victoria would be by far the nicest place to live out of all the places mentioned.
