all ive heard since yesterday evening is how shawn white is a "failure" and how he "failed" to make the snowboarding finals.
is that really necessary?
is that what our world has come to?
why cant we just give praise to the winner and just let shawn white live in peace?
why does the media see it necessary to put such an emphasis on shawn whites "failure"? is it because he has won so many times,to a point where he is "expected" to win? and therefore, if he doesnt, then we strongly bash him and call him a failure?
this is not just a problem is winter sports, but all sports. running. basketball. all athletics. it is wrong and very hurtfull to athletes when we say negative things about their performance.
in the future, why dont we just give praise to the winner. reguardless of who it is. and just keep quiet about eveyone else, reguardless of their athletic history or public "expectation" to perform well.
how unfortunate it is that athletics have evolved into the "double standard" criticizing a persons poor performance, even moreso than giving praise to those who were deemed champion.
