I don't think the two could be compared. Steve Prefontaine has the "American" in him if you know what I mean. He's from the U.S. Verzbikas is not, although he is a fantastic runner.

Pre's parents came over from Germany I think before Pre was born. Its not like he was a 5th generation American. But I get your point. The big difference I think could be how much LV even competes at Oregon. Apparently he is dedicating himself to the 2012 Olympics in the triathlon. He may take a year off for that. Then who knows after that. I don't envision 4 straight NCAA titles at Oregon for LV like Pre did.

LV is Mongoloid-Baltic. SP is French-Hunnic(Siberian Asian). Hope this helps.
There will never be another Pre, but if he wins 3 NCAA XC titles and four in a row in track, he is comparable.

He can't make the 2012 team, they use a point system to decide who goes, and he would not be able to get enough points in time. And he said he is a runner for college, NOT a triathlete, so you're about 1 or 2 years behind for information.

Pre did not own Shorter in Shorter's main event, but the Europeans did own Pre.
