He needs to run the World Cross Country junior race for some perspective. Also, his PRs are not even close to even qualifying for US Nationals. What the hell is is thinking?

Maybe he was thinking Pro in triathlon? There is a bit more money in that with sponsors and such.
Where is he ranked nationally in the tri? Top 20? Has he even competed in a senior tri with national/international triathletes? He is in the wrong sport if he's expecting immediate success. His track PRs suggest national level talent at best.
Jager went pro when he didn't have the times.
Maybe he was thinking he could go pro get a coach like one of the otc ones and work on long term development instead of ncaa titles.
Going pro implies making money. How much did Jager make this year? How much has he made during his entire career? The money in track goes about three deep. If you're not in the top three nationally in your event, you don't make enough to be considered a pro athlete. I'll ask it again, what are Lukas's PRs?
Maybe he can open an Amway franchise and sell soap and toiletries but he's just a little runt as a runner who has won child races.
Lukas had a very similar contract to what German had offered to him to run for Jerry.

Huh? World War II is over. We don't call Germans that any more. What are Lukas' PRs?
Jager ran something like 49/1:50/4:05/8:45 in HS off of not much. Comparable to Kennedy and Solinsky on the prospect side. Not much point to NCAA competition for that sort of talent, given the option$.
The bright side they're finally running out of bones to break on the kid.

good times for a high school or college athlete, but for professionals it does not do anything.
example-josephat menjo had run 13:00 and 13:02 last year and him and his agent tried to get him in a diamond league meet (the diamond league pays the best, but still only like 16K for the winner) and the meet director told him those times are not good enough so menjo was not allowed to run, (menjo did wind up running 12:55 for 5k and 26:56 in small meets meaning he got little if any money for it, now menjo will be able to get in the big meets).
but jager i am sure is making a huge monetary sacrifice to try to be a successful runner, and as good as LV is as a high schooler but as a professional he would not be able to even get in meets that would pay anything, so college is his best option.
WHAT ARE LUKAS' PRs?
My point exactly! He has no PRs worth mentioning!
A 20 year old, photogenic, white, english-speaking American who runs 13:22 is more much marketable (and therefore more valuable to sponsors and track meets) than another 13:0x African who nobody knows.
Menjo had a good 2010, and hopefully his earnings will reflect that, but Lukas and Evans won't need to break 13 or 27 to get by.
LV looks Eur-Asian so he can't pass for white. Apolo Ono, Devin Setiguchi, Paul Kariya, and Travis Ishikawa aren't white either.
Lukas is as white as they get, translucent almost.
He looks half-Asian with those slanty eyes and high cheekbones. The Baltics were civilized by the Vandals and Mongols who came from North Eastern Asia.

All of these things are true. However, the money in T&F is not about who gets into the diamond league. Its about advertising to high schoolers and recreational runners. Jager, German, and Lukas had that kind of potential. Schumacher also seems to believe that he can take these young kids with big potential and make them into high quality professionals. He also has the budget and freedom from Nike to make those kind of calls. I'm not saying it makes a whole lot of sense, but these kids are getting pretty large offers from Nike.
No one knows his PRs, so how the hell do you know how much Nike would give him?
What do you mean by "more marketable"? Runners are not marketable in this country, at all! Every once in a while we get a commercial on TV but there hasn't been on in some time. I have not seen Fernadez,Derrick,Jager et al promoted or marketed ANYWHERE! USATF and other just flat out suck! They don't do squat to market the sport to mainstream America. Letsrun,Flotrack,Runnerspace et al are the backbone of marketing the sport of track/XC/Road racing.
