I fell from the top of a bouldering wall awkwardly and landed on the back of one of my heels. It hurt pretty badly, not unlike a sprain, but after a few minutes, I was able to get up and gingerly limp it off. It still hurt several hours later, but I could walk without much of a limp as long as I was on a smooth surface like a sidewalk and didn't allow my heel to hit the ground with much force. I figured I'd just injured the soft tissue a little bit and would be fine in a day or two.
It has now been over a week since the injury and, although it seemed to get a little better for the first day or two it has actually been getting worse lately, and I can't walk without limping noticeably. If it were a sprain, I'm sure that it would have cleared up by now. Also, unlike a sprain, there didn't seem to be much swelling or discoloration, and I don't recall my ankle twisting much when I landed. There's a tiny amount of discoloration on the inside of my heel, but that's about it. This area is painful to touch. I also can't imagine that it would be some sort of aggravated stress fracture as I haven't been running much over the past few months due to achilles issues on the other leg. I can't imagine that it's a fracture, due to the lack of debilitation. Icing and elevation seems to help, but only temporarily.
Does anybody have any idea what's wrong? I hate going to the doctor, but I may have to, if it continues to fester.
