Letsrun you never steer me too far wrong...
Planning to spend maybe a week in Greece for vacation late February with my wife and (young adult) son. Our style of vacation revolves around food and random explorations of culture. Thinking about spending a few days in Athens to see some of the main sights, then head outward, either by car or other means, to catch some other part of the country.
We speak no Greek but have no fear of trying to get around with sign language, charades and a smile.
Anyone with some good suggestions, where to go, what to see, how best to get around, anything else you think is pertinent?

Interesting story (if only to me), we previously had plane tickets booked for a trip to Greece several years ago, but 2-3 days before we were booked to fly the coalition invaded Iraq. We decided we didn't want to get that close to the Middle East (not that it's that close, but there were some deaths in riots in Athens at the time if I recall), and changed on short notice to an all inclusive resort in Barbados. That was nice, but lazing and boozing on the beach isn't really our thing. Give me a transit pass, walking shoes and a tourist map in a big city I'm much happier. :-)
