Marathoners-Please help!! I am so torn! I have a marathon (first) on Feb. 13. I have marathon trained specifically for 6 months. I also play tennis, lift weights, spin, do pilates etc.- LOVE to exercise! I ran 3 half marathons in the Fall with a PR of 1:49 - I am a 40 yr old, 125 lb female.
After running 2 - 18's and one 20 - On Jan. 3 My IT band flared up on the 22. I had to stop at 20 and have been doing therapy etc in addition to cross training and easing back into running. I ran a 10 mile race on Jan 22 fast and ran 15 today- no problems at all!
What I am asking- begging- for true advice on is... should I try for the whole when it will have been from Jan 3-Feb 13 since having a long run?? I assume it is too late now to try for a long run in the next few days.
Problem is: I am super competitive- yet fear injury again. I do not want to do the whole if there is a strong possibility of hurting myself or doing poorly-
Should I just try to kick butt in the half?
THANKS!
