I overclocked my i7-870 CPU with a stock intel fan on it. When I bring up Asus PC Probe II, the CPU temp is pretty much hovering around 40 degrees Celsius when I am doing nothing; the lowest it went was 38. Before overclocking, it was around 32 degrees Celsius when I was doing nothing. So, esentially, the idle temps increased 8 degreees.
Is 40 degrees a safe idle temperature for a CPU?
yes. Those chips are badass. I wouldn't worry.
Why not do a google search for this sort of thing rather than ask a bunch of runners that may or may not not anything about this matter.
I did some google searching; although, I didn't do a very thorough search. I knew there were engineers and computer enthusiats, etc. on LetsRun; so, I thought that the answers I got would be just as good. Thanks for the replies so far.
As long as you stay below 9000k you will be ok.
