The fake name thread has me thinking about how many of us reallu have raced under fake names because we were out of shape. I did it at a 5k. How about you?

No, I've never done this. The thread has me inspired to try it sometime. But I want to actually be in shape and win the race, so my fake name gets more attention.
I have not.
I haven't, but I can see how it would be a good idea. Wouldn't you hate it if you ended up running a good time though, especially at a race of half marathon distance or longer
I've never done it but a good friend of mine, who is very fast, does it quite a bit. It's not really a fake name but he'll use, say, his middle name rather than his first. He's worried about crappy results messing up his running resume at sites like athlinks and zinsli.
Sounds pretty pussyish.Get out there, race and let the chips fall where they may. Get a box of tissues if a slow time next to your name makes you cry.
I've raced under a fake name before, but not because I was out of shape.
Have ya'll ever posted snotty, ridiculous, stupid, or completely uninformed comments on a website under a fake name because you were too spineless to own up to your words??
I know a D1 runner that does. He does so
he can accept cash prizes and the NCAA won't see he won in the off chance they decide to check. I dont know how well it will work if the NCAA actually looks into him.
I used to as well, but so my coach wouldn't know I was racing in the "off-season"...
When I was in college and in actual good shape, I never wanted to race in the off season. After I graduated, I did some road racing, but I took little happiness in destroying the local running community of old men and 14 year old girls. It felt ridiculous to race normal people. Now I'm old and slow, too, so it feels appropriate to race mortals once again.
I was once having a bad race so I took off my chip, put it into my zip lock toilet paper bag and stuck it in my pocket so it would'nt read my finishing time.
Hey it was better than just dropping!
